This week, I learned about some types of bullying. At school, maybe on Tuesday, we watched an assembly about bullying. It is called the Power of One. In the assembly, two people named Cat and Jeff acted out different types of scenarios. On those scenarios, there were different situations with bullying. There is verbal bullying which is hurting other people around you with words. Then there is physical bullying, where someone being mean or being a bully hurts you physically such as kicking, punching, and hitting. Then finally, there is cyberbullying which is basically being rude and hurtful towards someone on the internet, while being anonymous. We can find out if we are actually being bullied by the three steps. 1. If it is being done purposely. If you know someone is hurting you on purpose instead of an accident can be bullying. 2. Is repeated. If the bullying occurs more than once, it is bullying. 3. If the bullying is hurtful. To be honest I actually forgot the last step, but bullying is usually hurtful. Even though I know what to do when someone gets bullied or if I am a target of bullying it was nice to get a reminder of what to do. You can try to settle it yourself, but you also have to tell the teacher. Another thing I learned is to not be a bystander. You can not just watch the bullying happen! That is not okay! We have to help stand up for people because it is the right thing to do. In the end, everyone learned that we have the power of one to stand up against bullying. We can prevent it, and it all depends on us. I am very happy we were able to watch this assembly because it helped me learn a lot.

The Women’s March LA is something I am very proud to have witnessed by TV, cell phone, and the news. I am very proud to be living in these times, where incredible moments like these occur. The Women’s March Movement was something very powerful and indescribable. I think whoever marched on that day is truly inspiring. Many celebrities and actresses were there to witness the magical moment of the march. Many actresses delivered speeches on how important it is to treat women and girls fairly and equally. I am honestly very happy to say that I am a girl, I was alive for this march and I was a part of the incredible movement. On January 21, 2017, millions of people gathered around the world to march for the equal rights of women. The march was held in different places such as Los Angeles, Paris, Boston, Washington D.C, and many more places. My favorite people in the whole world, Rowan Blanchard and Corey Fogelmanis from Girl Meets World also attended the thousands of people in Los Angeles. Not to mention, Amir Mitchell Townes was also there. The speeches that were given at the Women’s March LA not only affected me physically, it affected me emotionally. I honestly cried listening to Rowan Blanchard’s speech because it had so much meaning, so many messages, and so much heart and soul, I could never really forget it. She talked about how many people aren't treated equally, and how the young people of the world can change that. Not only is she fifteen years old, but she is so smart for her age. She believes in feminism so strongly I am honestly so proud to be a fan of her, because she truly is a legend. Something that also had a big impact on me was that Corey Fogelmanis also marched alongside with Rowan. The fact that he is a young man supporting the rights of his friends and family makes me really happy. Unfortunately I was never actually there at the march, but I felt the power and love of the march throughout the day, The Women’s March is something I will never forget, and I will always remember it for the rest of my life. Christa McAuliffe is an amazing person. At a young age, she was very smart and optimistic about life. She was a great older sister and loved every human being on earth with all her heart. She knew not to judge anybody and to look at them as a person of their true color. Christa McAuliffe was an amazing teacher and was loved by everyone. This lady, Christa McAulliffe was supposed to be the first teacher in space. Well, I mean she was trained for several months to reach space, but she never made it to her destination. Out of thousands of applicants, she was chosen to teach her own lesson in space on the Challenger, an space shuttle from NASA. It has always been a dream of Christa to be in space and was able to try to achieve that dream on the shuttle. As soon as Christa was chosen to be the first teacher in space, she quickly gained fame. She was very excited and was always happy during the training. When she was in a room for zero gravity, her and her friend played leap frog! Isn't that actually amazing?! That just showed how playful and goofy she was. But, she was also very serious about her job because she cared about it so much. On the day the Challenger was supposed to take flight, it was abnormally cold in January. According to history.com , “the American shuttle orbiter Challenger broke up 73 seconds after liftoff, bringing a devastating end to the spacecraft’s 10th mission.” Tragedy struck. No one knew what happened, no one knew what was going on. Many people were crying and screaming, realizing no one survived the explosion. All seven astronauts on board were killed, even killing the dear Christa McAuliffe. She didn't know this would happen to her, and she had so much faith in NASA in keeping her safe. The Disaster of the the Orbiter Challenger shall never be forgotten, for there are people who died there that shall be remembered for eternity, including Christa McAuliffe. I had a great time over break! It was wonderful to relax and chill out. I loved staying up late because there was no school! I had a lot of fun going out, watching mob=vies, Netflix, eating out, and spending time with my friends and family. My family hosted many parties that were toms of fun, and I had the best time! During Christmas, I opened many presents and got a lot of stuff from my wish list. I was very grateful to my parents, siblings, and other family members for their generous gifts. During winter break, I had a lot of fun being with my family. Besides Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day was the best. I have always loved New Years because I likes staying up late with my cousins. During New Years I also liked watching the ball drop in New York and watching the “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.” On New Year’s Eve I went out for sushi with my mom, grandma, and sisters. It was so delicious, and I really want to go back there again. Later that day, I texted a lot of my friends to greet them about the new year. I was very happy to get to 2017 because 2016 was an actually dreadful year. A lot of stuff happened and it was also very dramatic. One Direction took a break, and I was literally sad the rest of the year. So far, 2017 has been pretty rough, but it is okay because I have hope the rest of the year will be better. I wish to see my friends more, and that my family will continue to be safe and healthy. Anyway, as I was saying, I really love ringing in the new year. What was really weird was that during New Year’s, I was tired. I felt really sleepy but I didn't know why. Its okay though, because in the end, I was able to reach the countdown and watch the ball drop! I also watched my absolute favs NIALL and SHAWN perform with their angelic voices! After that, I texted my friends and hung out with my amazing and loving family. <3 I am very excited for the rest of 2017 to come!
A current event that recently happened was the All Star Volleyball Game! At the All Star Valley Volleyball game, we teamed up as a division with other schools to compete against other all star leagues to be the valley champions. To be in the all stars, we would have to be able to play well and be a good team sport. Instead of trying out to be on the team, Mr. Castro and Mr. Koochof who were are athletic directors and coaches, chose the people to be on the team. Kylie, Pauline and I were chosen out of the seventh grade team. Angelique, Chelsea, and Ela were chosen out of the eighth grade team. At the time I was super excited to be playing on an all star team, but also very honored and nervous. I really wanted to see who else would be on our team because I wanted to make new friends. It turns out that Mr. Jones was our coach, so that madde it a little more relieving. The schools on our team were Lady of Lourdes, De La Salle, Saint Euphrasia, and St. John Eudes. On the first day of practice, I had so much fun. Since volleyball is my favorite sport, I had the best time ever. I met new people, I made new friends and played a lot of fun games. We did a lot of scrimmages because we had the big Valley Championship game that Saturday. Sadly, we only had two practices, which made it hard to not see the new friends I had made. Anyway, since time goes by really fast, it was already Sunday. I was super nervous and excited at the same time I wanted to actually throw up. I didn’t know who we were gonna play, how tall they were, how good I would play, and if we would win or not. Since I am the shortest person ever, I was super concerned about my height and the height of the other players. To be honest, I am really insecure about my height, even though people call me cute, adorable, and a “little sister”. I was the first one out of my team to get to St. Cyril’s, the place we were gonna play at. Shortly after me, came Angelique and two of the girls from Lourdes. Their names were Hailey and Kelly. I absolutely admire them because they are good volleyball players, and at the same time, they were pretty. Then came more SJE people and the other new girls Anique, Em, MJ, and Ashley. I absolutely loved my team because I made new friends I could keep forever. Anyway, we practiced until the game started. The first game was really intense and exciting, and gladly, WE WON! It was a super fun experience but it wasn't over yet, because we had another game to play so we could win the title of valley champions. Our valley team was called: Mid-valley. The second game was super intense and hard. Sadly, I got out early because I hurt my arm while I tried to hit the ball one girl served. It was super painful but I was okay. After many tears and sweat, we sadly lost. We came second out of the valley league, and I am super proud. I had an experience I would never forget, and I was glad I made lovely new friends. This week in english language arts class, we played this so called game called “fishbowl.” It is basically more like an argument and / or discussion kind of game. In class, we selected a part of the classroom that will discuss our topic. Then, the other people in the classroom will sit on the outside of the selected section and observe while they take notes. The object of the “game” is that the people in the middle of this fishbowl have to discuss a topic, and argue on whether they agree or disagree. Our topics for the game Fishbowl were the books or shorty stories, The Pearl and The Gift of the Magi. We had some questions to answer so, we discussed it in class. I learned how to work together in a group and how many people have different and certain opinions on things. Most people agreed with each other, but they also disagreed on some parts of their statements. I have to admit, this game was a little bit awkward, but maybe as we keep playing this game, we will get used to it. Hopefully it is not awkward anymore, and it won’t be as quiet as it was the first time we played. Personally, I actually liked this “game” but some people might disagree. What I like about this game was that even if we didn’t go along with what someone said, we were polite and said we didn’t disagree and why. This exercise in english language arts class helps us communicate nicer and not in a rude way. Yes, people have their differences and different options but we should all listen. Overall, I really liked what I learned from this game and I am excited to play it again!
On November 3, 2016, it was my birthday! I was super excited because I got to be able to go to school and see my friends. Sadly, it was a school day, because I wanted my birthday to be on a weekend. Another reason I was also a little bit sad was because it would have been a week since I saw my idol and QUEEN/MOM Sabrina Carpenter live on her tour! It was amazing and probably the best thing I have every experienced. Not only did she wave to me, but she sang to me and held my hand! Isn't that amazing?! Anyway, as I was saying, I was really looking forward to my birthday. Another reason why I was so excited for my birthday to come was because I was going to turn thirteen! Thirteen years old for crying out loud! I was going to be a teenager. The thought was pretty cool and weird at the same time. It was weird, because I was going to be a teenager, even though I looked like a five year old. (Hahaha, just kidding! but seriously though, I am super duper short.) For my birthday I mainly wanted clothes and money. Most important of all, I also wanted to see my best friends the Calderons because they live all the way in San Francisco, and I barely see them. I wanted them to visit me on my birthday but unfortunately, they did not. As I was saying earlier, I wanted clothes and money. I wanted clothes from Brandy Melville, PacSun, and Forever21. I was really happy during the week of my birthday and I even got a sleepover with my best friends! I had an amazing thirteenth birthday and I can’t wait for the rest of my birthdays to come. Here is a link to a birthday site (because I have the same birthday as the amazing KENDALL JENNER! HOLLA ! YEA!) Birthday Website
Something I learned in english class with Mrs, Todesco is something called “parallelism”. According to study.com , “Parallelism is a literary device in which parts of the sentence are grammatically the same, or are similar in construction. It can be a word, a phrase, or an entire sentence repeated. King's famous 'I have a dream' repetition makes the speech compelling and rhythmic, as well as memorable.” In the sentence and / or in the paragraph above, study.com summarizes what parallelism is and what it is all about. For example the words singing and dancing are examples of parallelism. The reason why they show parallelism is because they are both parallel from each other, which mainly means that they are near the same kind of thing, or subject. Singing and dancing are both actions, and are also actions due to show choir or any theatre of some sort. This then makes both actions parallel. Another example if parallelism is: Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles are part of One Direction. The reason why this sentence reflects parallelism is because the two subjects of the sentence are both people, or according to the sentence “members of One Direction”. Something important that I learned in english class about parallelism is that not only words can be the same, but also actions and phrases! Mrs. Todesco assigned us a Noredink practice during school, and the practice was about parallelism. It made me know more about the topic and lesson, and I am extremely grateful for that. Anyway, I hope you liked this blog post, and don't forget to comment! Click here for a link to study.com, which is where I got most of my information.
Someting I learned recently was how to be a good writer. In class, we watched a video of Lucy Calkins. Lucy Calkins then explained how to be a good writer and why it is important to be such a thing. Lucy Calkins is a really good writer, and I think she gave out really good advice. To be a good writer, we must pay attention to life. This is because we can write about all the details of life that we have seen. Now, this must be really hard if we do not pay attention to the good things in life. In the middle of the video, I took notes on the whole video and how to be a good writer. The notes I had consisted of: like and writing starts with details, honor our OWN writing, honor other people’s writing, and much much more! What I love about this lesson and video is that what Lucy Calkins is saying is actually true! How de we focus on our writing if we don’t honor it? As Ms. Calkins said, “Honor our own writing like its GOLD.” I really admire that quote, and I will never forget to use it in life. Something I also really like is that Lucy Calkins specifically said to really think about what you are going to put in your writing. If we listen to our writing, our writing will flourish. Our writing pieces will also become more powerful. In all, I really like this video because it taught me everything I need to know on how to be a good writer!
A current event that is happening right now is the EVOLution Tour by Sabrina Carpenter. Sabrina Carpenter from my favorite show, Girl Meets World, announced that she was going to have her very first tour! Her tour takes place in 2016 and she's going different places across the globe. A few weeks ago, her tickets were coming out on sale. I was being super excited that day because I was wanting to go. Sadly, my mom was constantly saying no to buying the tickets. After a whole lot of convincing, my sister and I were able to get tickets. On Friday, I made sure to get home as fast as I can. The rockets would be coming out at 5:00 pm, and I was really nervous. Right as the clock stuck twelve, my fingers were moving super fast to buy the tickets. After a few minutes I GOT THE TICKETS! I was so happy and I kept screaming along with my sister. I ran quickly down the stairs to tell my parents, but I was so messed up, I tripped and fell on the stairs. I laughed so hard and I couldn't breathe. Sabrina’s tour is called EVOLution because her recently released album is called EVOLution. It came out on October 14, which was Rowan Blanchard’s birthday. Her album is really good, and I absolutely love it! My favorite song is probably “Feels Like Loneliness”, “Thumbs”, and “All We Have is Love”. I am so excited for the EVOLution Tour because I am going next week! The concert is on October 27, 2016 and I can’t contain my excitement! Here is the official link to Sabrina's Website |
